More DC Sightseeing

So we decided to stay an extra day. The last two days have been jammed packed with sight seeing. We are both exhausted. Ed went to bed at 730, it was still light outside.
Yesterday we took the trolley to Georgetown. Georgetown was little shops. We then headed to the National Cathedral.  It is the largest cathedral in the US and took 85 years to build. It was truly amazing. These pictures don't begin to do it justice.

This is a  picture of St Alden's a private school for boys. The roof is made of slate and if you enlarge the picture you should be able to see the hooks embedded in the slate.
The Smithsonian - There are 19 museums. This is the smithsonian castle and is the visitor center. We visited the Air and  Space, the African Art, the Native American, the Stackler (which is Asian art) the National Gallery of Art with a great Picasso exhibit, the National History, and the Hirshhorn Sculpture garden.
It was amazing. You could spend weeks exploring museums. We didn't even make a small dent.  My feet hurt so bad at the end of each day. We stayed an extra day but there is just no way you can even make a dent. Maybe if you had the time to do one a day????
African Art Museum

Lenny this is for you. Not the greatest picture but one of the biggest remote control planes I ever seen.
This is the capital mall which is undergoing some renovations. At one end is the capital and at the other the Washington monument. The Smithsonian museums  line either side. I think it is about 3 miles long.
These next three pic were taken at the Museum of Natural History
Again not the greatest pic but this is for  Nathan and Toby

Had to throw a picture of the hope Diamond in. It truly is a beautiful diamond.

This elephant is the first thing you see when entering the museum
Tomorrow we leave not sure what direction we are headed. I have enjoyed DC but an ready to leave. The traffic and crowds are insane. Think there is still spring break going on. Ready for some peace and quite. Will keep all updated.
