DC Sightseeing

Today was a busy day we saw a lot. But don't even think we made a dent in what there is to see. This is the Washington monument. It can be seen  from many places in DC
The next three pictures were taken at the Jefferson Memorial.

Think this was my favorite place today. It is the  FDK Memorial. It is 17 acres along the Pontiac river of waterfalls gardens and statues. Today really made me want to brush up on my history.

These two pictures are the Lincoln Memorial..
The Vietnam Memorial.  It was a sobering experience to see all the names listed. There is a book at one end that list each individual, their age and city/state they were from.  From here we went to Arlington.

 Kennedy grave site
Changing of the guard at the tomb of the unknown soldiers The site is watched over 24 hours a day. Through the trees as far as you can see are graves.
This was taken from Lees home in Arlington.
                                                                    The treasury building
 The white house
The Capital
Took tons of pictures today.  Ed and I were both awed by many of the things we saw today. Thank goodness for metro and a  trolley cars The trolley car is a tour you pay for but you can get on and off all day. It is the only way to go in Washington. The traffic is the worse I have ever seen. There is no way I would want to drive in it. Much of the stuff  is spread out so you need transportation. We are at the tail end of the cherry blossoms. We have seen a few. The dogwoods are blooming . The weather is prefect.
There is a dog walker who comes by and takes Willow for a walk so we don't have to worry about her.
Ed is still feeling crabby but I just keep feeding him meds.
We are talking about staying an extra day. We haven't even hit the museums yet. As always just not enough time.  Till next time
